It is said that if you can't build a powerful brand, all your marketing effort and budget won't help your business to compete in the overcrowded marketplace. This is especially true in the digital world, where consumers tend to have shorter attention spans. While millions of websites are selling all sorts of services or products online, only a handful of websites can be remembered. A strong brand connects your customers closely and emotionally with your business. Big or small compaines may benefit from branding. If you want to free your website from SERPs which depend on traffic from the search engines all the time, you have to build a strong brand. Branding is not only about having a logo or slogan. It is your customer's total experience with your products/services and your company. Below are steps to build a powerful brand: 1) Discover your branding strategies In order to develop strategies that work, you need to understand about the position of your business in the marketplace and how customers can differentiate your company among other competitiors in the same industry as you. 2) Get a professional Business Logo A well designed logo may be simple, yet carries a strong meaning and connect your business with your customers. Logo should not be complicated and if possible, contains the company name instead of images only. 3) Develop a slogan that comes with the logo A simple logo may not tell as much about your business yet. One look at the logo, customers may not understand much about your business. Many companies have also used slogans successfully such that customers remember the brand name as well as the slogan. For example, Nike is strong brand and when we think of Nike, we also think of the slogan "Just Do It". Ideally, a slogan should be less than 7 words so that it can be more easily remembered. Also, a slogan may help to convey company mission, corporate philosophy and even market position of the company. 4) Register a meaningful domain name If you want to bring your business to the global level, then its time to throw away generic names such as "www.singaporeonlinemarketing.com". Your domain name should contain the brand name and as short as possible. Generic domain names are easily forgettable and do not stand out at all. If we take a look at the successful Internet giants like Google and Yahoo!, the domain names are short and easy to pronounce - www.google.com, www.yahoo.com. 5) Be fast and focussed While we always try to spot a niche market and avoid direct competition with the big guys, its also important that you enter the market and the minds of your consumers first. Once positioned well in the market, it takes so much more effort for your competitors to attract those customers that remember your business well. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In a fiercely competitive world today, branding becomes much more crucial for you to stand out of the crowd. It allows your customers to differentiate your business from so many others. Pricing strategies also depend strongly on how customers think about your business, and about your brand. If you intend to position your business in the upmarket, branding becomes absolutely necessary. Concluding thoughts Contrary to popular belief, branding is not merely about your company logo. It extends beyond marketing and encompasses customer interactions, employee communications and company mission, corporate philosphy. In short, its a sum of all the parts of the business. A strong brand itself is worth millions of dollars. In today's competitive world, you may compete with cuting edge technology, trade secrets, innovations, patents etc. But most likely someone on the other side of the world can outsmart you in one way or another. Branding becomes a very cost effective way for you to bring your business to the next level.
