Its the last day of 2007, so its good to look back on the past 12 months and summarize all that had happened to the search industry. In fact, many SEO consultants may be aware that what works in the past may not work in 2008. One of the most significant events will be Google’s introduction of “Universal Search“. Many would probably realize that instead of the normal html pages that link to websites, other types of media such as music, video, blog posts, news are showing up in the search results. Microsoft followed suit in September, and Yahoo added its blended search results in October. To Internet marketing consultants, this change essentially means that they have to market websites in many other medium, rather than focusing on traditional link building and directory submission only. Then 2007 can also be considered the year of “Social Media Marketing”. This is brought about by the rise of Facebook, Digg etc.. Even Google and eBay got involved, with Google launching OpenSocial APIs and eBay introducing eBay neighbourhood after feeling the heat from the competition. Some fundamental techniques of SEO like on-site optimization may work in the past, but will now diminishes in its importance. |
